Nargiza Kuchkarova’s recovery journey at a TravelSport camp
In a personal interview, Uzbekistan javelin thrower Nargiza Kuchkarova reflects on her training camp in Antalya and the recovery support she received after meniscus surgery.
Nargiza Kuchkarova arrived at her TravelSport training camp with two connected goals: to continue preparing as an elite javelin thrower and to support her return after knee meniscus surgery. In this interview, she shares her experience of the camp, her work with TravelSport and the recovery process that accompanied her first steps back towards training.
Arriving at camp after knee surgery
Nargiza had undergone meniscus surgery before travelling to the camp. She explains that she arrived using crutches and needed a carefully managed recovery process before she could begin working towards a return to javelin training.
Her situation meant that the camp was not only about access to the throwing field. Training decisions and recovery support had to be considered together throughout her stay.
Five recovery sessions with TravelSport
TravelSport arranged five recovery sessions during the camp. The support combined selected equipment with hands-on work from TravelSport massage therapist Mahmut Ali.
The programme and its progression were specific to Nargiza’s condition and her individual response during the camp.
- Compex SP 8.0 electrical muscle stimulation
- Wintecare T-Plus TECAR therapy
- Rehabilitation massage with Mahmut Ali
- Progress monitored from session to session
From crutches towards training
In her interview, Nargiza says that she arrived for the third recovery session walking without crutches. She also reports that she was able to return to training 20 days after the operation.
This timeline is Nargiza’s personal account of her recovery. It should not be understood as a guaranteed result or as a standard rehabilitation schedule for another athlete.
Recovery as part of the camp experience
For Nargiza, the value of the camp came from having training and recovery support available within the same coordinated stay. Her interview combines feedback about TravelSport with a direct account of the practical help she received while preparing to return to her discipline.
This is the role recovery can play in a wider camp plan: supporting the individual athlete’s needs while the training environment, accommodation and daily logistics are coordinated around the team.
Every rehabilitation pathway is individual
Recovery after surgery depends on the athlete, the procedure and the guidance of qualified medical professionals. Equipment and massage are used only as parts of an individual programme and do not replace medical assessment or clearance to resume training.
Athletes considering a camp during rehabilitation should share their current medical status and requirements before travel so the available support can be discussed clearly in advance.
